Palisades Park NY
this is to explore the creation of the NY state park and neighboring Bear Mountain
The following individuals helped play a part in the creation of the park
Edward H Harriman- between 1886 and 1907, he purchased land in Orange and Rockland Counties in NY.
1909 his will is proved and the document, containing a mere 98 words, leaves 100 percent of his real and public properties to his wife Mary W Harriman. The value of the will is estimated at 810 million dollars.
1910 Mrs Harriman gives to the state 10,000 acres and 1 million dollars with the goal of creating the park, that would be eventually called Palisades Park. She directs the state to purchase enough property between the park, bear mountain and the western shore of the Hudson River.
In 1911 she deeds land to the state, with the caveat that should the state or third party attempt to use the land or procure any additional land for purposes other than the park, land and money revert back to her control
